Major John Sheppard was based at the McMurdo Air Force Base in the Antartic as a punishment for disobeying a direct order by flying his helicopter behind enemy lines to rescue three Rangers. He was assigned to fly General Jack O’Neill to the Ancient outpost. While at the outpost, he found that he possessed a rare gene that allows him to use Ancient technology and better yet, he’s a natural at it. Once Dr. Weir found out, she insisted he join the expedition team to the Pegasus Galaxy.
